Kā te Rama Switched On Group
29 July 2024Switched On Group were formally gifted a te reo Māori name, Kā te Rama, by iwi partners Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira in 2022. Since then, we’ve been working within our business to build more knowledge about te ao and te reo Māori, including adopting our gifted karakia that embrace the meaning behind Kā te Rama.
Today, we officially took the leap and changed our Facebook and LinkedIn names over to our gifted name – a leap that is pertinent as our work in the greater Wellington region and the rohe of our iwi partners grows.
Kā te Rama literally translates to ‘the light burns’ and has a strong correlation to the metaphor ‘switched on’.
You may have noticed signage with our gifted whakatauākī (the story our gifted name comes from) going up around many of our offices. We have also been using our gifted name in more of our content as we grow our mahi, particularly in the social and community housing space.
This is a significant milestone for us and the start of visual design changes, which will follow in the next 6-12 months. We will continue to engage internally and with our iwi partners and specialist Māori designers as we make this move.
Kā te Rama is just part of the continued evolution of Switched On Group to meet changing construction sector and community needs. Our purpose, values, vision and the mahi we do as a Group remain the same. We are simply taking the next step in embracing this gifted name as we expand our mahi.
