How Kā te Rama Switched On Group marked World Health & Safety Day

28 April 2025

Every year on 28 April, World Health and Safety Day is observed globally. This day is dedicated to remembering those who have not made it home from work and raising awareness about the importance of creating safer, healthier work environments for everyone.

At Kā te Rama Switched On Group, the safety and wellbeing of our people are at the core of everything we do and we’re committed to achieving our goal of zero harm in the workplace. This day serves as a powerful reminder that health and safety isn’t just a set of rules – it’s a way of working that protects lives, strengthens our culture and brings our teams together.

To mark World Health and Safety Day, we engaged with our wider network to reinforce the importance of putting people first when it comes to health, safety and wellbeing.

Switched On Building Solutions' trades participating in monthly Health & Safety Toolbox talks

We asked our trades and subcontractors what health and safety mean to them, sparking meaningful conversations on site and capturing kōrero to share with our network across Aotearoa. Our trade partners also received an email containing key information and national statistics, raising awareness of the very real health and safety risks we face in our industry every day and prompting important discussions about safety on site.

Our kaimahi also participated in kōrero about what health and safety means for them in their roles. They received messages and resources to encourage reflection on the significance of the day and to remind everyone that health and safety are integral to every role – whether on the tools, in the office, or out in the field.

For us, World Health and Safety Day is more than just a date on the calendar. It is a call to action to protect what matters most – our people. Together, we are building a culture of health, safety, wellbeing, care, and responsibility where everyone feels supported to do their best work and return home safely at the end of each day.
