28 July 2023

Switched On Group is proud to announce that Hannah Broderick, Electrician for Switched On Building Solutions, was selected as one of six finalists in the 'Tradeswoman of the Year' category at the National Association of Women in Construction (NZ) 2023 Excellence Awards.

Hannah says that it was inspirational to be in a room filled with woman making a difference in the construction industry at the Awards, which were held in Christchurch on Friday 21st July.

“The highlight for me was that I had a big table of fans – my family came and heaps of the team, which was super humbling. It was about all the people who got me there, and their support, training and belief that got me where I am – and that is the highlight for me because those are my people.”

Hannah primarily works on enhancing the environments of our Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities customers and is frequently commended for her positive attitude, innovative thinking, and dedication to improving her craft. She hopes to inspire other young women pursuing a career in the trades by proving that women can excel in the industry and provide a high-quality trade service.

‘I met heaps of other women in trades which was cool, it was eye opening the magnitude of how many women filled the room, who were all working in construction. It was just incredible’.

Being a finalist in these Awards is an uplifting achievement, especially for an electrician who is still new to the industry. Switched On Building Solutions General Manager, Dan Baker says Hannah has made a big impression in the team and in her career already.

“We admire Hannah’s passion for her mahi and are proud to see her recognised alongside some of the industry’s finest. The mana she brings every day – we weren’t surprised when we learnt she had been selected as a finalist. I’m very happy to see her get recognised for her excellent work.”

As a result of the awards, Hannah connected with lots of other women in trades and is looking forward to continuing strengthening her relationships within the industry. Including through meeting up to share knowledge with other tradeswomen.

The National Association of Women in Construction (NZ) (NAWIC) encourages women to pursue, establish and sustain successful careers in the construction industry. Their national Awards celebrate the achievements of women working in construction, with 11 different awards for recognition in all areas of the industry.
