Health and Safety Lead- Hastings

We have an opportunity for an A player to join our team, we are looking for someone who enjoys coming up with new ways to lead and keep our teams engaged and passionate about Health & Safety.  We see Health and Safety as the priority on our sites and ensuring our customers, staff and trades are at the centre of everything we do, while ensuring we can deliver high quality workmanship without compromising safety.

 

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity 

The Health and Safety team are responsible for the on-site assurance of Switched On Housing's safety functions to ensure that the work is carried out in a timely, safe & efficient way, whilst also taking into consideration the requirements of our customers.  You will need to be able to travel between the region's offices of Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Palmerston North and potential travel to the South Island to integrate with our other regions and team members.

 Key duties include but not limited to:

  • Offer leadership and mentorship to two H&S Officers in the region (split between Palmerston North and Hawkes Bay)
  • Ensure all staff understand Health and safety systems and procedures
  • Drive H&S initiatives and improvements 
  • Lead training and development
  • Oversee day-to-day reporting to the National H&S Manager
  • Assist in the implementation of policies and procedures to meet industry requirements
  • Assurance audits of external Health and Safety systems for contractors
  • Undertake event investigations and engagement with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that corrective actions are identified and actioned
  • Work with our sub-contractors in regard to Health and Safety including continuous improvement of their systems and processes

 

Ko wai koe | About you 

  • Prepared to go the Extra Kilometer for our People & Customers and their Health, Safety and Wellbeing
  • Recognised Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety (Required)
  • Recognised qualification in safety auditing (Preferred)
  • Recognised qualification in accident investigation (Required)
  • Recognised qualification in Adult Assessor Training (NZQA - 4098) (Required)
  • Experience in demonstrated People Leadership and development (Required)
  • Minimum 4 years previous operational Health and Safety experience in a construction or similar industry 
  • Flexible and adaptable to a changing work environment
  • High Attention to detail and ability to own it
  • Autonomous self-starter with initiative to see actions to completion 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to travel within the region on a regular basis.
  • Able to interpret and apply legislation and regulation in a consultive and constructive way that ensures learning and improvement
  • Ability to adapt to a working environment where every individual is on a learning journey and is focused to supporting this growth potential
